Firstly, you will need to select a suitable property (and qualifying property should you be looking for Permanent Residence). This could be in either a IRD or RES development.
This is the general procedure that follows but can differ depending on how far down the custruction path the development is:
As per the reservation contract, you will need to transfer 10% of deposit immediately and another 15% 2 weeks prior to the title deed signature and 5% on title deed signature. This deposit will be held in trust by the notary and same will be transferred to the developer once the title deed is signed .The bank will also issue a completion guarantee prior to the title deed signature and carry a Know Your Client (KYC) exercise for the Board of Investment once the deposit has been paid.
Please note that in order to obtain residency, funds should be transferred in foreign currency and same will be converted once they are received in Mauritius. As soon as the deposit is transferred, we can start with the BOI approval process. Title deeds can be signed 3 weeks later and it takes another 2 weeks to get the deed registered.
In addition to the above deposit a government registration fee of USD 25,100 for a RES property and USD 70,000 for a IRS property is payable on title deed signature.
Once we get the registration number, we can apply for residency for you, your spouse and children under 18 -this document will be issued within 2 months. A client can therefore get residency even during construction phase of a project.
