The Bulgarian Citizenship Immigrant Investor Programme, leading to Bulgarian Citizenship, is attractive to those looking for a cost effective EU citizenship and passport without needing to relocate to Bulgaria – owing to the waiver or the minimum stay requirements for this investment programme.
The physical residency of applicants applying for the Bulgarian Citizenship programme is waived for qualified investors and they will also be able to enter and leave the country as many times as they wish without visas. To qualify for the Bulgarian Citizenship programme, applicants will need to invest 1,000,000 BGN (€511.292), as per the statutory procedures, in guaranteed governmental bond portfolio for a period of 5 years. After the investment in the accepted governmental bond portfolio is purchased, the client obtains an investment certificate from the Ministry of Finance.
The Bulgarian Citizenship applicant can invest in two ways:
Full Investment
The investor deposits the full amount of 1,000,000 BGN (€511.292) into the Guaranteed Governmental Bond Portfolio for a period of 5 years. No further payment is required. At the end of the five year period, the amount 1,000,000 BGN (€511.292) is returned to the investor with no accrued interest. The Investment is fully guaranteed by the government bonds.
Financed Investment
The investor pays the reduced amount of €180,000.* The reduced amount is used to finance a 1,000,000 BGN (€511.292) closed five-year term loan from a Bulgarian chartered bank. This loan is initiated and repaid at no further cost to the Investor. By financing the investment in Government bonds the investor is not exposed to the Government’s ability to refund the investment at the end of the five year term.
*Please note that applicants who select the Financed Investment Option will have to demonstrate net assets worldwide of more than €1,000,000. This is a requirement from the Bulgarian chartered bank.
Permanent Residency is issued within four to six months after submission of the application. Please note that all applicants are subject to thorough checks by Interpol, Europol and other anti-crime organizations. A pre-requisite to the Bulgarian Citizenship Investor Programme is that all applicants must have crime free records and must not be subject of ongoing criminal proceedings.
